Box Score 2 Meadville, Pa. - DePauw extended its win streak to 11 and finished North Coast Athletic Conference regular season play by winning its last nine games following a doubleheader sweep at Allegheny by scores of 13-4 and 14-5.
DePauw improved to 21-15 overall and 12-6 in the NCAC, while the Gators dropped to 24-15 overall and 9-9 in the conference. With the sweep, the Tigers earned a spot in the NCAC Tournament which starts on Thursday, May 13. DePauw enters the tournament as the fourth-seed and plays top-seed Denison in Thursday's 3 p.m. game.
In the opener, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second on Danny Glimco's solo homer before Cameron Macon made it 2-0 in the third when he singled home Kyle Boyer.
Macon's two-run single in the fifth scored Nick Nelson and Brennan Roach before May's single in the inning plated Macon and gave DePauw a 5-0 lead. Kyle Callahan's grounder in the sixth brought home Boyer and made it 6-0.
The Gators scored one in the sixth before the Tigers scored two in the seventh and five in the ninth. Allegheny added three in the ninth to wrap up the scoring.
Brian May had three of DePauw's 14 hits, while Macon, Glimco, Boyer and Roach each had two. Eight different Gators collected one hit each.
Michael Vallone improved to 9-1 after allowing just one run and four hits in eight innings. His 12 strikeouts pushed his season total to 88 which broke the mark of 80 by PJ Mitchell in 2006. Vallone's nine wins tied Steve Ray for third-most in a DePauw season. The Gators' Conor Deasy dropped to 6-5.
More history was made in the nightcap in the Tigers' win. Allegheny grabbed a 5-0 lead after three innings, but DePauw rallied with five in the fifth, three in the sixth, five in the seventh and one in the ninth.
Nelson and Roach each had four hits with Nelson setting a DePauw single-game record with three homers. Nelson's blasts came in three consecutive innings starting in the fifth and he drove in seven.
Macon, Callahan, Glimco and May each had two hits as the Tigers totaled 17. May and Callahan also homered for DePauw and Callahan pushed his career total to 20 to tie the DePauw career record held by Brian Shannon (1993-96). The Tigers tied a team record with 46 homers this season which was previously set in 2017.
Joe Runnells improved to 3-3 with Preston Pierce dropping to 0-2.
