DePauw Totals 19 Hits and Hangs on for Win at Rose-Hulman

Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the sixth and held off a Rose-Hulman comeback and took a 12-8 victory over the Fightin' Engineers. DePauw improved to 14-15, while Rose-Hulman slipped to 19-10.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first as Nick Nelson led off the game with a single and stole second before scoring on Kyle Callahan's single. They made it 2-0 in the second when Ty Sucher and Paul Jennewein each singled and moved up a base on a passed ball. A wild pitch allowed Sucher to score from third.

DePauw added six runs in the fifth as Nelson led off with a double and moved to third on Cameron Macon's single. Callahan singled home Nelson and an error on the play allowed Macon to advance to third. Back-to-back ground outs by Brian May and Danny Glimco plated Macon and Callahan before Danny Sheehan doubled and scored on Sucher's single. Jennewein singled and Breennan Roach walked to load the bases. Nelson drew a walk that allowed Sucher to score and Macon drove in Jennewein with a single.

The Tigers pushed the lead to 9-0 in the sixth as May led off with a double, moved to third on Glimco's fly out  and scored on Sheehan's sacrifice fly.

Rose-Hulman loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and a walk plated one run before Adam Taylor drove in one with a single and Brett Tuttle brought home a pair with a base hit to trim the DePauw lead to 9-4. The Fightin' Engineers made it 9-8 with a four-run seventh in which they hit five singles.

DePauw added three insurance runs in the ninth as Brennan Roach led off with a double and scored on Macon's double. Callahan singled Macon to third and Glimco tripled to score both.

Macon had four of DePauw's 19 hits with Callahan adding three. Nelson, Glimco, Sheehan, Sucher and Jennewein each added a pair. Tuttle, Josh Mesenbrink and Adam Taylor each collected two of Rose-Hulman's 10 hits.

Will Lucas improved to 4-1 after blanking Rose-Hulman on two hits in five innings with 10 strikeouts. Drew Harding earned his first save. Matthew Rouse dropped to 3-3.

The Tigers travel to Anderson tomorrow (April 27) for a 4:30 p.m. single game.
