Tigers Post Two Shutouts and Hammer Eight Homers in Senior Day Sweep over Hiram

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's pitching tossed a pair of shutouts and allowed just six hits in a North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep of Hiram and the offense clubbed eight homers as the Tigers won by scores of 16-0 and 11-0 with both ending in the seventh inning with the run-rule. DePauw moved to 13-15 overall and 6-6 in the NCAC, while Hiram dropped to 10-18 overall and 2-10 in conference play.

In the opener, Danny Glimco led off the DePauw second with a homer and, later in the inning, Nick Nelson hit a grand slam to make it 5-0. Brian May led off the third with a homer and Danny Sheehan doubled home Glimco later in the frame to push the lead to 7-0. 

Evan Barnes singled home Cameron Macon in the fourth before the Tigers blew the game open in the fifth. Back-to-back RBI doubles from Nelson and Macon were followed by two-run singles from Glimco and Sheehan. May's two-run homer in the sixth rounded out the scoring.

Glimco and Sheehan each had three of DePauw's 15 hits with Nelson, May and Barnes each totaling two. Three different Terriers had one hit each.

Michael Vallone improved to 7-1 after striking out 11 and walking one in tossing a three-hit shutout. Jack Longar dropped to 0-1.

DePauw carried the momentum into the nightcap with a four-run first on May's RBI single and a three-run homer by Barnes. Callahan led off the third with a homer and Glimco came home when Drew Straub reached on an error.

The Tigers sealed the win in the fifth as Glimco hit a solo homer with one out and Sheehan clubbed a three-run shot. Nelson doubled with two outs and Macon followed with a triple that wrapped up the scoring.

Glimco led DePauw with three of its 11 hits followed by Nelson and Sheehan with two each. Three Terriers had one hit apiece.

Joe Runnells improved t0 1-3 after striking out six and scattering two hits over 5 1/3 innings. Stephen Javorek dropped to 4-4.

DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, April 26, with a 6:30 p.m. game at Rose-Hulman.
