Tigers Hand Hendrix First Loss in Doubleheader Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Conway, Ark. - DePauw topped Hendrix, 9-6, in the opening game of their doubleheader to send the Warriors to their first loss of the season and the hosts came back to split the twinbill with an 8-6 victory in the second game. DePauw is now 4-4 on the season, while Hendrix is 13-1.

In the opener, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the second as Brennan Roach singled home Paul Jennewein. Hendrix evened the score in the bottom of the third as Juan Pablo Leon reached on an error that allowed Tyler Webb to score.

Cameron Macon delivered a two-run double in the fifth and Kyle Callahan reached on an error which scored Macon and gave DePauw a 4-1 advantage. Rally Miller scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to trim the DePauw lead to 4-2, but the Tigers scored three in the eighth as Roach's single plated Brian May. Cameron Allen followed with a two-run single.

The Warriors added three in the eighth before Danny Glimco reached on a fielder's choice in the ninth that allowed May to score and Ty Sucher singled in Nick Nelson. Hendrix added the game's final tally in the bottom of the ninth.

Allen and Roach each had three of DePauw's 15 hits with Macon, May and Nelson collecting two each. Rail Gilliam had three of Hendrix's 10 hits with Drake Job chipping in a pair.

Michael Vallone improved to 3-0 after allowing just an unearned run in five innings. EJ White collected his first save. Andrei Stoyanow dropped to 1-1.

In the nightcap, the Tigers again got out to an early lead as Kyle Callahan slammed a first-inning, two-run homer. The Warriors, however, scored six in the bottom of the first including a three-run homer from Joseph Watts and a solo shot from Adam Bland.

Nelson's eighth-inning double plated May and Nelson scored when Danny Sheehan singled. Roach wrapped up the scoring with a two-run double to cap the four-run inning.

Allen, Callahan and Roach each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Bland, Owen Shaw and Jacob Carpenter had two each of the Warriors 10 hits.

Dylan Perrott dropped to 0-1, while Jack Hodgins improved to 4-0 and Kyle Wellman saved his first of the season.
