Box Score Jefferson City, Tenn. - DePauw dropped to 6-9 on the season with its fourth-straight loss as it fell to Division II Carson-Newman by a 13-3 score in eight innings. The Eagles improved to 18-15 with the win.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Cameron Macon singled with one out and scored on Kyle Callahan's double down the left field line.
Carson-Newman took the lead in the bottom of the second as Kilian Daughtry drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on an error after Zach Boze reached on a fielder's choice. Harrison Travis followed with a three-run homer to make it 3-1.
Spencer Bright led off the Eagles' fifth with a single and came home on Henry Jackson's triple. After Gunnar Ricketts reached on a bunt single, Andrew Carpenter moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt and Daughtry drove in two with a double. Daughtry then scored on Travis' triple which extended the Eagles' lead to 7-1.
DePauw's Cameron Allen singled with one out in the sixth and Macon followed with a two-run homer to cut the lead to 7-3.
Carson-Newman responded with two in the bottom of the sixth as Carpenter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Daughtry followed with an RBI single. A run-scoring single from Bright in the seventh followed by Jackson's sacrifice fly and Ricketts' double pushed the lead to 12-3. The Eagles wrapped up the win with the 10-run rule after scoring an unearned run in the eighth on Spencer Williams' bases loaded single.
Macon had two of DePauw's four hits, while Travis had three of Carson-Newman's 15. Jackson, Ricketts, Daughtry, Williams and Bright each added two.
Justin Pelley started and took the loss for the Tigers to drop to 0-1, while Ryan Smithson improved to 1-1 after allowing just four hits and striking out seven with no walks in six innings.
DePauw returns to action tomorrow with a 5 p.m. game at Earlham.
