Box Score 2 Maryville, Tenn. - Host Maryville (Tenn.) rallied from deficits in both games of the doubleheader with DePauw and swept the Tigers by scores of 11-10 and 11-9. DePauw dropped to 6-7, while the Scots are now 13-7.
In the opener, Gabe Lopez hit a solo homer in the first to give the hosts the early lead before DePauw's Danny Glimco hit a solo shot in the top of the second to even the count. Zach Fritts and Peyton Milam hit back-to-back doubles in the second to give Maryville a 3-1 lead.
DePauw's Evan Barnes drove in one with a fourth-inning single and the Tigers took their first lead of the game in the fifth as Cameron Macon's grounder scored Brennan Roach and Kyle Callahan delivered a two-run homer to make it 5-3.
Zac Graham's solo homer in the fifth trimmed the Tigers' lead to 5-4, but DePauw added two more in the sixth on an RBI single from Glimco and Cameron Allen's run-scoring grounder. Lopez singled home a run in the sixth and DePauw's Nick Nelson hit a solo homer in the eighth to make it 8-5.
Maryville regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth as Lopez singled with the bases loaded to score two and an error on the throw from the plate to third allowed two more to cross the plate. Graham followed with an RBI double before Max Bowers made it 11-8 with a run-scoring single. DePauw scored two more in the ninth, but fell short in the loss.
Callahan had four of DePauw's 12 hits, while Nelson and Barnes added three each and Glimco had two. Lopez and Ian Campbell each had three of Maryville's 16 hits. EJ White took the loss in relief and dropped to 0-2, while Maryville's Damian Lusby improved to 4-1. Grady Cash collected his second save.
In the nightcap, DePauw took a 5-0 lead with two in the third and a three-run homer from Brian May in the fourth.
The Scots plated six in the bottom of the fourth, but DePauw's Nelson evened the count with a solo homer in the fifth.
Maryville took an 8-6 lead with two in the bottom of the fifth and the Tigers knotted the contest with a Glimco homer in the sixth and Callahan's sacrifice fly in the seventh. The Scots took the win with two in the seventh and one in the eighth.
Allen, Nelson and May each had two of DePauw's nine hits. Jimmy Meredith had three of the Scots' 12 hits with Kendall Catlett adding two.
Griffin Albright dropped to 0-1, while D.J. Cooper improved to 1-0 and Cash picked up his third save.
The teams square off in a 1 p.m. single game at Maryville tomorrow.
