Box Score Carbondale, Ill. - DePauw took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh, but 20th-ranked North Central scored one in the seventh and three in the eighth for a 6-3 win over the Tigers. North Central improved to 2-0, while the Tigers dropped to 0-1.
DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the first as Kyle Callahan drew a two-out walk and moved to second on a passed ball. After Wilson Graves walked, Brian May delivered an RBI single. Justin Rios hit into a double play in the bottom of the first that allowed John Petty to score and even the count at 1-1. Michael Patterson's second-inning single scored Brent Swenson and gave North Central the lead.
The Tigers scored two in the fifth as Cameron Allen singled and scored on Evan Barnes' double. Barnes advanced to third on Callahan's ground out and scored on a throwing error on the play.
The Cardinals knotted the score in the seventh as Luke Lehnen led off by being hit by a pitch, moved to second on a grounder and to third on a fly out. Trey Roach then singled home Lehnen. Rob Marinec's three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth sealed the win.
May led DePauw with three of its eight hits, while Allen and Barnes each had two. Petty and Marinec each had two of the Cardinals' seven hits.
EJ White took the loss in relief of Joe Runnells who struck out six and didn't walk a batter in six innings. Ryan Behling collected the win and Nolan Shannon picked up the save.
DePauw returns to action on Sunday with a 10 a.m. CST game against Wilmington and a 4 p.m. CST contest against Blackburn. Both contests are at Southern Illinois University.
