Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw wrapped up the 2021 season by hosting top-ranked WashU and the Tigers dropped both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 22-1 and 4-3. The Tigers finished the campaign at 15-21, while the Bears improved to 26-3.
In the opener, the Bears scored five in the first and four each in the second and third innings to take a 13-0 lead. The Tigers' lone run of the game came in the fourth as Charlie Patrick led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Nick Nelson's grounder.
The Bears added five in the fifth and four in the sixth for the game's final runs.
Patrick had two of DePauw's three hits, while Caleb Durbin led WashU with four as he hit for the cycle in his first four plate appearances. Six other Bears collected two hits each as WashU totaled 19.
Ryan Loutos improved to 9-1 with the three-hitter as he struck out seven and didn't walk a batter. Joe Runnells dropped to 4-4.
In the nightcap, the Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead with one run each in the first and second innings. DePauw evened the count in the fourth as Cameron Macon singled with two outs and stole second. After Kyle Boyer walked, Spencer Youngcourt singled home Macon. Jack Lee then singled to center, allowing Boyer to score.
DePauw took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth as Danny Sheehan led off with a double, moved to third on Macon's grounder and scored on Boyer's RBI single.
Tim Van Kirk led off the WashU seventh with a homer to tie the game at 3-3. Durbin then drew a walk and stole second before advancing to third on a throwing error on the play. He scored on a wild pitch.
The Tigers put runners into scoring position in the seventh and eighth innings, but both were picked off.
DePauw totaled 11 hits as Nelson, Sheehan, Macon and Lee each collected two. Van Kirk had three of WashU's seven, while Broghan O'Connor followed with two.
Jared Fong improved to 3-0 after blanking the Tigers for the final 3 2/3 innings. EJ White dropped to 3-2 after allowing just one earned run and striking out seven over the final 5 2/3 innings.
