Box Score 2 Greencastle, Ind. - Host DePauw scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth of game one of its North Coast Athletic Conference West Division doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan to break a 4-4 tie on the way to a 10-5 win. The Battling Bishops came back with a 9-3 win in the second game to earn the split. DePauw moved to 13-18 overall and 6-8 in NCAC play, while Ohio Wesleyan is now 6-20 overall and 2-12 in the division.
In the opener, DePauw grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first as Kyle Callahan led off with a single, moved to third on Charlie Patrick's double and scored on Cameron Macon's grounder.
Edrick Padilla's two-run homer in the third gave the Battling Bishops a 2-1 lead, but DePauw countered in the bottom of the third as Callahan was hit by a pitch, Patrick singled and Macon was hit by a pitch before Danny Sheehan delivered a two-run single. Spencer Youngcourt followed with an RBI grounder to give DePauw a 4-2 advantage.
Davis Graham's fielder's choice RBI in the fifth and Padilla's run-scoring single in the sixth evened the score at 4-4.
Youngcourt led off the sixth with a single and pinch-runner Joey Webster moved to second on TJ Carney-DeBord's sacrifice bunt. Jack's Lee's single scored Webster and gave DePauw the lead. Evan Barnes singled and Patrick walked to load the bases. Macon followed with a two-run single and Nelson was hit by a pitch to again load the bases. Sheehan then sealed the win with a bases-clearing double.
Austin Harper's solo homer in the seventh wrapped up the scoring.
Patrick, Sheehan, and Youngcourt each had two of DePauw's 11 hits with Sheehan driving in five. Padilla had three of Ohio Wesleyan's eight hits and Izaiah Withrow had two.
DePauw reliever EJ White improved to 3-1, while Ethan Soderna dropped to 0-5.
In the nightcap, DePauw again got out to an early lead as Callahan, Patrick and Macon each singled in the first to make it 1-0. Nick Nelson followed with a two-run single to make it 3-0.
The Battling Bishops scored four in the third with the final two coming after a two-out error. Ohio Wesleyan added three more in the fifth and two in the seventh for the win.
Five different Tigers had one hit each, while Graham had three of the Battling Bishops' 11 hits. D.J. Neff, Zack Stiteler and Cole Antle totaled two hits each.
Ryan Ebeling improved to 3-3 with the complete game win. Ebeling retired 20 of the last 22 batters he faced including the final 11. Michael Vallone dropped to 3-2.
The two teams square off tomorrow in Delaware, Ohio, in a 1 p.m. NCAC West Division doubleheader.
