Greencastle, Ind. - Following a week in which he tossed DePauw's first no-hitter in over 20 years, DePauw's Michael Vallone (Fr., Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) has collected two national honors in addition to earlier this week being named the North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.
Vallone was selected as the NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) Division III Pitcher of the Week and was named to the D3Baseball.com Team of the week after his performance in the Tigers' 8-0 win at Wittenberg on April 14.
The southpaw pitched the Tigers' first no-hitter since 2000 and the first complete-game no-hitter of at least seven innings since 1980. Vallone struck out eight and faced the minimum 21 batters. His lone blemish was a hit batsman in the third inning, but the next Wittenberg batter grounded into an inning-ending double play.
DePauw returns to action tomorrow with a 1 p.m. NCAC doubleheader against Denison at Walker Field.
