Box Score 2 Greenville, Ill. - DePauw rallied late in game two of a doubleheader at Greenville for a win and a sweep by scores of 6-3 and 8-7. The Tigers moved to 4-1 with their fourth straight win, while the Panthers dropped to 0-6.
In the opener, Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second on River Baker's two-run single, but the Tigers knotted the contest in the third as Kyle Callahan drew a bases loaded walk and Cameron Macon reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Danny Sheehan to score. The Panthers regained the lead in the bottom of third as Parker Panich plated Blake Duncan with a single.
In the fifth, Macon again reached on a fielder's choice with Charlie Patrick scoring before Jack Fitzgerald gave DePauw the lead for good in the sixth with a single that scored Spencer Youngcourt who led off the inning with a double. Youngcourt hit a leadoff homer in the eighth and Nick Nelson hammered a solo shot in the ninth for the final runs.
Sheehan and Youncourt each had two of the Tigers' nine hits, while Drew Frey had two of Greenville's six hits. Joe Runnells moved to 1-0 with Michael Vallone collecting his first save. Runnells struck out seven in six innings, while Vallone pitched three hitless innings. Luke Fleener dropped to 0-2.
In game two, DePauw picked up single runs each in the second and third innings including Trey Shaw's RBI triple in the third. The Panthers scored one in the fourth and six in the fifth to grab a 5-2 lead.
DePauw began its comeback in the sixth on Youngcourt's run-scoring single and added one in the seventh on Callahan's RBI double. In the eighth, Patrick cut the lead to 7-5 with a leadoff homer. Eli Bell later tied the contest with a two-run triple and then scored the game-winning run when Sheehan lifted a sacrifice fly to right.
Nelson and Patrick each had two of DePauw's 10 hits, while Landon Mokris led Greenville with three of its 11 hits. Frey and Panich each added two.
Dylan Perrot, who pitched three innings of hitless relief, picked up the win and moved to 1-0, while Hunter Cullum slipped to 0-1.
DePauw travels to Butler on Tuesday, March 9, for a 3 p.m. contest.
