Box Score 2 St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw traveled to third-ranked WashU and dropped a doubleheader by scores of 12-1 and 10-0. The Tigers moved to 7-5, while the Bears improved to 7-0.
In the opener, WashU scored an unearned run in the first and the score remained 1-0 until the hosts struck for six in the bottom of the fourth and five more in the sixth. The Tigers' lone run came in the top of the sixth as Jack Fitzgerald singled and moved to second on Trey Shaw's single. Kyle Callahan reached on a fielder's choice and an error on the play allowed Fitzgerald to score.
Danny Sheehan had three of DePauw's five hits, while the Bears totaled 12 and were led by four players with two each.
Joe Runnells dropped to 2-1 with the loss and struck out five in five innings. Ryan Loutos moved to 3-0 after striking out 12 and walking just one in seven innings.
In the nightcap, the Tigers managed just a pair of singles by Nick Nelson and Joe Fitzgerald, while the Bears scored in six of the seven innings. Six different Bears had two hits each as they finished with 14 as a team.
Michael Vallone dropped to 0-1 after going 5 2/3 innings and striking out five. Troy Bauer improved to 2-0 and struck out six in pitching the two-hit shutout.
The two teams square off in a single game Sunday in St. Louis at Noon CDT.
