Box Score 2 Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw evened its record at 4-4 after completing a weekend sweep of Manchester after winning both games today by scores of 5-3 and 8-5. The Spartans dropped to 1-5.
In the opener the teams were scoreless for the first four innings until DePauw struck for three in the fifth on Kyle Callahan's three-run homer to left center.
Manchester reached the board in the sixth as Zaine Young led off with a ground-rule double and later scored on Joe Henschel's sacrifice fly. The Tigers made it 4-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Jackson Williams doubled with two outs and Brayden White delivered an RBI single. DePauw added an unearned run in the seventh before Manchester scored one each in the eighth and ninth.
Williams, White and Kyle Boyer each had two of DePauw's nine hits with Young collecting three of Manchester's seven and Isaiah Knight-Neraasen adding two.
Tom Giella moved to 1-0 after allowing just seven hits and striking out eight in seven innings. Keegan Bridges collected the save by striking out two in the ninth. Carter Hooks suffered the loss.
In the second game, DePauw scored three in the first with the final two coming on Jack Omstead's single and then added two more in the second.
Bret Kron hit a two-run homer for Manchester in the fourth and the Spartans tied it with one in the fifth and two in the sixth. Callahan's two-run homer in the sixth and Nick Nelson's solo blast in the eighth wrapped up the scoring.
Trey Shaw, Williams, Callahan and Omstead each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while Young, Henschel, Cole Filson and Kron had two apiece of the Spartans' total of 12.
EJ White moved to 1-0 with the relief win, while Williams collected his first save. Michael Pinarski dropped to 0-1.
DePauw travels to Hanover on Saturday where it'll face Calvin in a 4 p.m. game.
