Box Score 2 Atlanta, Ga. - DePauw slipped to 0-4 on the season after dropping both ends of a doubleheader at Oglethorpe by scores of 10-3 and 5-3.
In the opener, Oglethorpe scored five in the first as the Tigers committed four errors while the Stormy Petrels clubbed three doubles. The hosts added four in the third for a 9-0 lead. The Tigers reached the board in the fourth as Kyle Callahan and Nick Nelson drew walks and each moved up on a wild pitch before Maclain Neal delivered a two-run double. DePauw added another run in the sixth when Brian May hit a solo homer. The Stormy Petrels wrapped up the scoring with a single run in the bottom of the sixth.
Five different Tigers collected one hit each while Alex Featherstone led Oglethorpe with three and Carter Guarino and Ian Wilson had two each. Jonathan Haab improved to 2-0 with the win as he struck out 11, while Will Lucas dropped to 0-1.
In the nightcap, DePauw took a 1-0 lead in the second as Boyer led off by being hit by a pitch and moved to second when Trey Shaw drew a walk. Jack Omstead's sacrifice bunt advanced both runners and May's grounder scored Boyer. The Tigers stretched the lead to 3-0 in the third as Nick Nelson walked with two outs, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Kyle Callahan's single. After Boyer was hit by a pitch again, Shaw delivered a double that brought home Callahan.
The lead didn't last long as Oglethorpe scored four times in the bottom of the third as Billy Finch led off with a single and moved to third on Sam Buchanan's double. Guarino walked to load the bases and Featherstone followed with a sacrifice fly. With two outs Alec Babb homered to left to give the Stormy Petrels the lead.
Oglethorpe made it 5-3 in the seventh as Finch reached after being hit by a pitch, moved to second on a balk, to third on a grounder and scored on a wild pitch. DePauw placed two runners in scoring position in the eighth, but the Tigers lined into a double play to end the threat. The first two DePauw hitters in the ninth reached base, but the next three struck out to end the game.
Six different Tigers collected one hit apiece with Alec Babb totaling two of Oglethorpe's five hits.
Kyle Babb improved to 1-1 with the win in relief and Dylan Childress collected his first save. Sam Paddock dropped to 0-1.
DePauw hosts Mount St. Joseph in a Noon doubleheader at Walker Field on Saturday, Feb. 29.
