DePauw Splits NCAC Doubleheader at Oberlin

Oberlin, Ohio - DePauw topped Oberlin, 7-5, in the opening game of their North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader before the Yeomen earned a split with a 5-1 victory in the nightcap. DePauw moved to 13-9 overall and 1-3 in NCAC play, while Oberlin is now 10-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

Oberlin took a 1-0 lead in the opener on Brendan Mapes' RBI double in the third before DePauw gained a 3-1 advantage in the fifth on Charlie Patrick's two-run double and CJ Yoannou's RBI single. 

The Yeomen evened the count in the bottom of the fifth on Alexis Castillo's sacrifice fly and Mapes' run-scoring single.

Kyle Callahan and Spencer Youngcourt put the Tigers ahead, 5-3, as each delivered RBI singles in the sixth, while Nick Nelson extended the lead after driving in one with a single in the seventh.

Castillo's two-run double in the seventh closed the DePauw lead to 6-5, but Jackson Williams was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the game's final run in the eighth.

Callahan had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Noah Salasky and Patrick each had two. Castillo, Mapes and Ben Reed each had two of the Yeomen's 11 hits.

Aaron Miller moved to 1-1 with the win, while Brayden White collected his first save. Nick Dawkins dropped to 0-1.

In the second game, Oberlin scored four in the third starting with Parker Goldstein's RBI single. Castillo reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Goldstein to score before Jack Marsjanik plated the third run with a squeeze bunt and Ben Reed followed with a run-scoring single.

Patrick's RBI double in the fourth put the Tigers on the board before Oberlin's Nick Nelson drove in Reed with a single in the sixth.

Four different Tigers had one hit each, while Mapes, Lawrence Hamilton and Reed each had two of Oberlin's eight hits.

Parker Bray dropped to 1-2 with the loss, while Ian Dinsmore improved to 3-1.

DePauw returns to the diamond on April 9 with a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Franklin.
