DePauw Earns Split with Five-Run Outburst in 16th Inning of Second Game

Crawfordsville, Ind. - A five-run 16th inning propelled DePauw to a 12-7 win over Wabash in the second game of its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Wabash and a split after the Little Giants took game one by a 5-4 score. The Tigers moved to 22-13 overall and 8-6 in the NCAC, while the Little Giants are now 20-16 overall and 8-7 in conference play.

In the decisive 16th inning, TJ Carney-DeBord reached on an error with two outs before Noah Salasky drew a walk. Nolan Lavender followed with a single that scored Carney-DeBord. After Charlie Patrick was hit by a pitch, Kyle Callahan blasted a grand slam to make it 12-7. The grand slam was the Tigers' third in two days.

The Tigers took a 4-0 lead in the first, but Wabash evened the count with two each in the first and second innings. After DePauw regained the lead in the third on Evan Barnes' RBI double, the Little Giants added three more in the third for a 7-5 lead. Barnes hit a solo homer in the fifth and Jack Omstead drove in Cameron Allen with a single in the seventh to make it 7-7. The teams then battled through eight scoreless innings.

DePauw's Brayden White improved to 2-0 after pitching nine innings of scoreless relief in which he struck out eight and allowed three hits. The Tigers' pitching blanked the Little Giants over the final13 innings. Kevin O'Donnell dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

The Tigers totaled 23 hits with Lavender leading with five. Salasky, Patrick, Allen and Barnes had three hits apiece. Jared Wolfe had three of Wabash's 12 hits.

In the opener, Wabash scored three in the first before the Tigers put up two in the fourth on Barnes' RBI single and Jackson Williams' sacrifice fly. Wabash extended the lead to 4-2 in the fifth on Jackson Blevins' homer before DePauw evened the score in the sixth with an RBI double from Omtead and a run-scoring single from Williams. Wabash pulled ahead for good in the seventh as Sean Roginski singled home Austin Simmers.

Lavender had three of DePauw's 10 hits, while Wolfe had two of Wabash's 10. Aaron Miller dropped to 1-3 with the relief loss, while Logan Butrum improved to 3-0 and Zach Moffett collected his fourth save.

DePauw hosts Allegheny on Saturday, May 4, in an NCAC doubleheader starting at Noon.
