Tigers Complete Second Straight NCAC Sweep; Rally for Game One Win

Hiram, Ohio - DePauw scored four runs each in the ninth and 10th innings of its first game at Hiram for a 13-9 North Coast Athletic Conference win and plated five in the final two innings of game two for a 9-4 victory and a doubleheader sweep. The Tigers moved to 19-11 overall and 6-4 in NCAC play, while Hiram dropped to 5-23 overall and 0-12 in the conference.

In the opener, Hiram grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first before the Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the third on Noah Salasky's RBI single, Spencer Youngcourt's bases-loaded walk and Cameron Allen's run-scoring fielder's choice. Nolan Lavender made it 4-2 in the sixth with a single that scored Jackson Williams.

Vince Suso's three-run homer in the sixth gave the Terriers a 5-4 lead and Kyle Harris scored on a wild pitch in the seventh to push the Hiram lead to 6-4. 

Charlie Patrick's sacrifice fly in the eighth cut the Hiram lead to 6-5 and the Tigers evened the score in the ninth on TJ Carney-DeBord's single that scored Evan Barnes. Salasky's sacrifice fly and Lavender's two-run single gave DePauw a 9-6 lead.

PJ Suso's three-run homer with two outs in the bottom of the ninth forced extra innings, but the Tigers scored four in the 10th for the win. Kyle Callahan led off with a homer before Jackson's squeeze bunt brought home Youngcourt and Lavender singled home Jason Mundell and Barnes.

Lavender had five of DePauw's 20 hits, while Allen and Williams each had four with Salasky and Callahan recording two each. Alex Perrella, PJ Suso and Vince Suso each had two of Hiram's 10 hits.

Brayden White improved to 1-0 with the win, while Christian Owens dropped to 0-1.

Patrick gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead in the nightcap with a first-inning double that scored Salasky, but Vince Suso evened the score in the third with a double.

Salasky's sacrifice fly in the fifth put DePauw back out in front and the Tigers extended the lead to 4-1 in the sixth after Patrick reached on an error that scored Callahan before Barnes singled home Patrick.

The Terriers tied the contest in the sixth with three unearned runs, but DePauw scored three in the eighth with Barnes starting the rally with a sacrifice fly before Williams and Salasky delivered RBI singles. Williams drove in the final run with an run-scoring grounder in the ninth.

Patrick and Barnes each had three of DePauw's 15 hits, while Salasky, Williams and Callahan had two apiece. Harris, Vince Suso and Andrew Church each had two of Hiram's eight hits. 

Sam Huff moved to 3-0 with the relief win with Logan Huffman dropping to 1-5.

DePauw hosts Earlham on Tuesday, April 23, at 4:30 p.m.
