Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw moved to 17-11 overall and 4-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference after sweeping Wittenberg by scores of 4-3 and 11-6. Wittenberg dropped to 14-11 overall and 5-5 in conference play.

In the opener, the Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the first as Kyle Callahan led off by being hit by a pitch and TJ Carney-DeBord walked. After Charlie Patrick reached on a fielder's choice that forced Carney-DeBord, Spencer Youngcourt delivered a sacrifice fly to center.

The score stayed that way until the sixth when Youngcourt led off by being hit by a pitch and moved to second on Noah Salasky's single. Nolan Lavender reached on an error of his bunt and, with one out, Nick Nelkson reached on a fielder's choice  that allowed Youncourt to score. Jackson Williams followed with an RBI single. Callahan then was out on an infield fly after he hit a pop up between the plate and the mound. Wittenberg didn't field the pop up and Lavender advanced home to make it 4-0.

Wittenberg reached the scoreboard in the seventh as Jack Seifert reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second when Ryan Probst was hit by a pitch. Mason Davis singled to load the bases before Hayden Knox drew a walk. Gabe Stacy then hit a two-run single to left to cut the DePauw lead to 4-3.

Davis led off the Wittenberg ninth with a walk and pinch-runner Justin Bargar moved to second on Jeff Chonko's sacrifice bunt and to third when Tanner Boros grounded out. The game's final out was recorded when the ball got past the DePauw catcher, but Stacy was ruled to have swung on appeal for the third strike and was thrown out at first.

Salasky had three of DePauw's seven hits, while Williams added a pair. Nick Hollinshead had two of Wittenberg's five hits.

DePauw starter Sam Huff moved to 2-0 with the win, while Brayden White recorded his third save. Rusty Hayhurst dropped to 2-2.

In the second game, the Tigers again got out to a quick start as Carney-DeBord singled with one out and scored on Callahan's triple. Callahan later scored on a wild pitch.

Wittenberg evened the score in the third as Matt Baker led off with a single and scored on Probst's triple. Probst later scored on a passed ball to even the score at 2-2.

The host Tigers regained the lead in the third as Carney-DeBord led off with a single and moved to second when Patrick singled and an error on the play allowed both to move up a base. Lavender's sacrifice fly plated Carney-DeBord before Youngcourt lifted a pop behind first base that dropped in for a hit.

Wittenberg again answered with two in the fourth as Stacy led off by being hit by a pitch and moved to second on David Hamrick's sacrifice bunt. Baker singled Stacy to third and Probst followed with a squeeze bunt that scored Stacy. Hollinshead then drove in Baker with a single.

The Tigers sent 12 to the plate in the fourth and took advantage of two errors, three walks and a hit batsman and scored seven in the frame.

Hollinshead drove in Hamrick with a single in the sixth and Knox hit a solo homer in the seventh to cut the DePauw lead to 11-6.

Patrick had three of DePauw's 12 hits, while Carney-DeBord, Cameron Allen and Williams had two apiece. Baker, Probst, Hollinshead, Patrick Kenny and Davis each had two of Wittenberg's 12 hits.

Tom Giella improved to 1-1 with the win in relief, while Brandon Beegle dropped to 1-2.

DePauw travels to Hiram on Saturday for an NCAC doubleheader at Hiram.
