Tigers Top Spartans in Series Opener; Game Two Called Due to Weather

Box Score

Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw put together four multi-run innings and extended its win streak to three with a 9-6 win over Manchester at Bishop Chatard High School. The Tigers moved to 3-4, while the Spartans dropped to 1-5. Game two was called off due to weather, but the teams will face each other in a Noon doubleheader tomorrow.

Nick Nelson's two-run homer in the third put DePauw on the board before Manchester tied it in the bottom of the frame. Braxton Riley's RBI double cut the lead in half and Riley later scored on a wild pitch.

Nelson and Charlie Patrick had run-scoring doubles in the fifth that sandwiched Nelson scoring on a passed ball to make it 5-2. The Spartans scored one in the fifth and took the lead, 6-5, with three runs in the sixth.

CJ Yoannou's RBI fielder's choice in the seventh evened the score before Kyle Callahan delivered a go-ahead single that plated Nelson.

Spencer Youngcourt singled home Yoannou in the ninth and Nolan Lavender wrapped up the scoring with a sacrifice fly that brought home Patrick.

Nelson had three of the Tigers' 12 hits with Patrick, Youngcourt and Noah Salasky each adding two. Riley had three of Manchester's 11 hits with Michael Pinarksi adding two.

Sam Huff, who relieved Grant Rademacher, moved to 1-0 after allowing two earned runs in four innings. Tom Giella picked up his first save after retiring the side in order in the ninth. Jacob Van Pelt dropped to 0-2 for the Spartans.
