DePauw Extends Win Streak to Five with Doubleheader Sweep over Manchester

Indianapolis, Ind. - DePauw held Manchester to just three runs on the way to a doubleheader sweep by scores of 2-1 and 9-2 at Bishop Chatard High School. The Tigers extended their win streak to five and improved to 5-4, while the Spartans dropped to 1-7.

In the opener, Nick Casey improved to 2-1 after striking out six and allowing just one run and six hits over 7 1/3 innings. 

Manchester took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second on Joe Gallatin's solo homer to center.  

Charlie Patrick countered in the bottom of the fourth with a solo blast to center before Noah Salasky delivered the game-winner with a sacrifice fly that scored Nick Nelson in the sixth.

Four different Tigers collected one hit each, while Braxton Riley and Hunter Seegers each had two of Manchester's six hits.

Aaron Miller picked up his first save after retiring all five batters he faced including three by strikeouts. Austin Kresl dropped to 0-1 with the loss.

In the nightcap, DePauw scored all it would need in the bottom of the first as Patrick and Nolan Lavender each hammered two-run homers.

Ryan Mueller singled home Nick Rush in the second to cut the lead to 4-1, but the Tigers responded with two in the third on Lavender's sacrifice fly that plated a pair. Jackson Williams scored on a wild pitch in the fourth before Austin Shirley singled home Salasky in the seventh to make it 8-1.

Nick Tilman's infield single brought home Riley in the eighth to trim the Tigers' lead to 8-2. DePauw's Evan Barnes wrapped up the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with a sacrifice fly that scored Cameron Allen.

DePauw totaled 14 hists led by three from Yoannou and two each from Salasky, Lavender and Shirley. Riley paced Manchester with two of its seven hits.

Joe Runnells improved to 1-0 after striking out six and allowing just one run in six innings. Michael Pinarski dropped to 1-1.

The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 16, when they travel to Rose-Hulman to face Calvin (2 p.m.) and the Engineers (5 p.m.).
