Tigers Sweep Wabash, Run Winning Streak to Four

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. – DePauw swept Wabash on Sunday with 4-3 and 5-3 wins to conclude their final home stand this year with a 4-0 record and their longest win streak of the season.

In game one, DePauw held on after a two-out rally in the ninth from the Little Giants. After an error in the infield, Jerrod Wolfe homered to right field to pull Wabash within one.

Nick Casey entered the game to get the final out. After three more base runners reached, he left the bases loaded with a strikeout to earn the save.

Tom Giella got the win after going six innings and allowing just one run. Sam Huff went 2.2 innings and gave up two runs, both unearned.

Collin Einertson, Nolan Lavender and CJ Yoannou all went 3-for-4.

Two of DePauw's runs came from stealing home. After a pitch in the fourth, the catcher threw the ball back to the pitcher, but Yoannou at third broke for home. The pitcher, startled, dropped the ball and could not get the ball back to the plate in time.

In the eighth, Lavender stole home when Noah Salasky broke late to steal second. When the pitcher turned around to throw in an attempt to catch Salasky, Lavender broke and scored.

Cody Cochran pitched the complete game for Wabash and took the loss.

In game two, DePauw did not to do anything too crazy to get their runs, starting with a solo home run from Einertson in the fourth. Later in the inning Collin Donahue made it 2-0 with a sacrifice fly.

Starter Aaron Miller pitched four scoreless innings, but after walking his first batter to start the fifth, he was relieved by Jonathan Azar. That run would later come around to score on a Bryce Aldridge home run that gave Wabash a 3-2 lead.

DePauw tied it in the bottom of the inning with a single from Spencer Youngcourt. They later retook the lead with a single from CJ Yoannou. Youngcourt also hit another RBI single in the seventh to make it 5-3.

After a rocky fifth, Azar would pitch a clean sixth and seventh for his first win of the season. Nick Casey got another save, his fourth of the year, after pitching the final two innings.

Wabash started the ninth with a leadoff single to bring the tying run to the plate. Casey then struck out the next two batters and got a fly out to end the game.

Youngcourt finished 4-for-4 in the game, and Einertson was 2-for-4, accounting for six of DePauw's nine hits.

DePauw is 10-23 overall and 8-8 in the NCAC for sixth place. Wabash drops to 26-8 overall and 10-6 in the NCAC for third.

With the four game winning streak, all in NCAC play, DePauw is doing its best to earn a spot in the upcoming NCAC Tournament. They conclude conference play next Saturday with a two game series at Allegheny (15-18, 6-8).
