Seniors Lead Way for Sweep

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. – Strong pitching performances led DePauw to a successful senior day and a Saturday sweep of conference opponent Ohio Wesleyan 17-3 and 4-2.

In game one, senior Tyler Holt was two outs away from a complete game but still had a solid line in picking up his second win of the season. He gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out five.

Ohio Wesleyan scored one in the first but was shut down for the next seven innings. Holt retired 13 batters in a row starting from the final out of the bottom of the fourth.

Holt lost his first batter in the ninth to a base on balls and was eventually scored on twice in the inning. Sam Paddock relieved him to get the final two outs.

The senior had plenty of run support as DePauw scored in all but two frames. They held a 10-1 lead after five, and a five-run seventh put the game out of distance.

Senior Collin Einertson recorded just one hit, but it was a two-run shot in the fifth inning that scored Nolan Lavender. Senior Sam Comer had a two-run double in the third to make it a 5-1 game. He finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Charlie Patrick was 4-for-5 at the top of the lineup with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. Lavender was a home run shy of a cycle as he finished 3-for-6 with three RBI.

Brayden White was 3-for-4 with an RBI, and Trenton Schneider had a pinch hit RBI single.

In game two, DePauw received another fine pitching performance, this time from junior Grant Rademacher. Rademacher went eight innings, allowed two runs and struck out nine.

Rademacher (3-3) started the game by striking out the side in the top of the first. He did it again in the fifth.

Nick Casey got the save and struck out the final batter of the game.

DePauw led 4-0 after five innings until Ohio Wesleyan tacked on two runs in the sixth. Spencer Youngcourt had a pair of RBI singles and finished 2-for-4.

The two wins put DePauw at 8-23 overall and 6-8 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan falls to 15-17 and also sits at 6-8 in conference play.

DePauw will host Wabash at 1 p.m. tomorrow in a double header.
