Five-Run Eighth Not Enough as Tigers Fall 8-7

Box Score

Terre Haute, Ind. – Rose-Hulman took an 8-7 non-conference win over DePauw on Thursday after a late rally left the Tigers just a run shy.

DePauw scored five runs in the eighth inning after trailing 8-2 including a two-out, two run single from Jackson Williams and a two-run double from Trenton Schneider.

After a clean bottom of the inning from pitcher Matt George, DePauw then took a couple of risks on the base paths in the ninth. Charlie Patrick led the inning off with a single but was caught trying to steal second.

After Nolan Lavender struck out swinging, Collin Einertson reached on an error. Pinch runner Ryan Ruthrauff then tried his hand at stealing second but another good throw got him and ended the game.

Rose-Hulman took a 1-0 lead after the first. Noah Salasky scored on a wild pitch in the second to make it 1-1 but two runs scored in the bottom of the inning and Rose-Hulman never trailed again.

Schneider's double was DePauw's only extra base hit as they collected eight hits in the game. Schneider also had the only multi-hit game for his team, finishing 2-for-3.

Jonathan Azar (0-2) took the loss in two innings of work. Rose-Hulman's Jacob Schult received the win.

DePauw dropped to 4-20 overall, while Rose-Hulman improved to 11-19. DePauw returns to NCAC action Saturday when they host a doubleheader against Hiram.
