18-0 Win Highlights NCAC Split

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Springfield, Ohio – DePauw was nearly flawless in game one of a doubleheader against Wittenberg on Tuesday where they put up 18 runs and received a complete game shutout from their starting pitcher, but a 6-2 loss in game two turned the day into a split in NCAC play.

In game one, DePauw tallied 18 runs on 18 hits, scored in every inning except the sixth and ended the game with a seven run top of the ninth. Defensively, they committed zero errors, and on the mound starter Tyler Holt went the distance with the complete game five-hitter, while also striking out eight.

Collin Einertson and Spencer Youngcourt each hit solo home runs as Einertson finished 1-for-4 with two walks, two RBI, and Youngcourt finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two walks.

Charlie Patrick was 5-for-7 with two doubles, a triple and five RBI. Jackson Williams did one better with six RBI as he finished 3-for-6 with a double. Noah Salasky was 4-for-5 with a double, an RBI and four runs scored.

In game two, Einertson hit another solo home run, but Wittenberg quieted DePauw with four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never lost the lead the rest of the way. Salasky finished 2-for-3 and hit a solo home run in the eighth.

Youngcourt started on the mound but only recorded one out as he was on the hook for all four of Wittenberg's runs in the first. Sam Huff relieved him and gave up just two runs in 6.2 innings, but the DePauw offense couldn't make up the difference.

DePauw is now 4-19 overall and 2-8 in the NCAC. Wittenberg is 9-19 and 4-6 in conference play.

Next, DePauw will face Rose-Hulman on Thursday in a non-conference bout.
