DePauw Rallies But Falls a Run Short to John Carroll

Box Score

Berea, Ohio – DePauw had a rally come up just short as they dropped their third game in a row in a 7-6 loss to John Carroll on Wednesday.

TJ Carney-DeBord had a two-out single to score two runs as DePauw left the eighth inning trailing 7-6. However, the Tigers went down in order in the ninth.

Charlie Patrick gave DePauw an early 2-1 lead after a two run single in the third. Yet, John Carroll came right back when Patrick Keohane hit a two-run home run to left field for John Carroll to retake the lead.

John Carroll had back-to-back RBI singles in the fifth to make it 5-2. Then in the seventh, DePauw narrowed the gap when Carney-DeBord scored on a wild pitch and Noah Salasky recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field. However, John Carroll again answered quickly with two runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4.

Sam Paddock (0-1) took the loss for DePauw. Starter Spencer Youngcourt went just one inning. Jonathan Azar, Sam Kaske and Tom Giella each had a clean inning out of the bullpen for the Tigers.

Collin Einertson had DePauw's lone extra base hit as he finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Patrick and Carney-DeBord were each 2-for-4.

DePauw now sits at 2-10 on the season. Next, they have a pair of games against the reigning conference champs in Wooster. They play a single game Friday at 4 p.m. and another Saturday at noon.
