Spartans Sweep Tigers

Box Score

Indianapolis, Ind. – Manchester took an 8-3 win over DePauw on Sunday and left Indianapolis with the three-game series sweep.

Manchester starter Taylor Kopplin (1-1) pitched a complete game for his first win of the year. DePauw scored a run in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings but could not make up what was a six run deficit by the fifth inning.

Manchester opened to a 2-0 lead in the first after a two-run single from Braxton Riley. Then, a four-run fourth put the Spartans up 6-0.

DePauw starter Tom Giella (0-1) recorded two quick outs in the fourth but walked his three next batters to end his day. Jack Norton came in from the bullpen but walked his first batter for a run. Manchester then scored another run on an error, and had a two-run single from Nick Rush to conclude their scoring in the inning.

DePauw got one back in the fifth off an RBI single from Jackson Williams, but Manchester answered with two in the bottom half of the inning. Charlie Patrick and CJ Yoannou had RBI singles in the sixth and seventh, respectively.

Yoannou finished 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and an RBI. Colin Donahue went 2-for-3 with a double.

Giella recorded the loss in 3.2 innings. Sam Huff pitched the final four innings, giving up two runs but striking out five.

I chose DePauw because it is a great academic school with a rich history and legacy. Additionally, I was impressed with the DePauw baseball program. Out of all the colleges I visited I felt most at home at DePauw
