Tigers Not So Lucky In Indy Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Indianapolis, Ind. – DePauw fell in a doubleheader to Manchester, 5-3 and 9-4, in games played at Bishop Chatard High School in Indianapolis on Saturday.

In game one, Manchester's Eric Knepper proved to be the difference. He went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs and three runs scored. He backed starting pitcher Stephen Pinarski who went five innings for the win. Garrett Phelps pitched the final two innings for the save.

DePauw starter Grant Rademacher also went five innings but picked up the no decision. Nick Casey was saddled with the loss after he came into a 2-2 game in the sixth inning and gave up two runs. However, he settled down and pitched the remainder of the game, going four innings and striking out five.

DePauw recorded five hits and were aided by seven errors from the Manchester defense. Charlie Patrick finished 2-for-3 with a run scored, and CJ Yoannou went 1-for-4 with DePauw's lone RBI.

In game two, DePauw notched 11 hits but Manchester's seven-run sixth inning led them to a 9-4 win.

DePauw held a 2-1 lead heading into the sixth but the bullpen couldn't back starter Tyler Holt's five-inning, one-run outing.

The Tigers needed three pitchers to get out of the sixth. Sam Huff recorded the first two outs but was tallied for two runs as he took his first loss of the year. Spencer Youngcourt came in and failed to record an out in the four batters he faced, while Jonathan Azar got the final out of the inning and pitched the remainder of the game.

Offensively, Sam Comer had a 3-for-4 game with two doubles, one run and one RBI. Patrick had another multi-hit game at 2-for-4, and Jackson Williams went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Maclain Neal came in as a pinch hitter and recorded an RBI double in the eighth. Noah Salasky went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Manchester moves to 5-3 overall with the two wins, while DePauw drops to 1-4. The two teams meet again noon Sunday to conclude their series.
