DePauw Rallies for Opening Win in NCAC Crossover Series

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. – No. 24 DePauw scored six runs in the eighth and came from behind to defeat Kenyon 10-6 in the first game of their NCAC Crossover series on Saturday.

The Tigers used six singles, a double and a sacrifice fly to put them over the top in the eighth. Reid Pittard recorded an RBI on a fielder's choice, and Jack Thompson singled to tie the game 8-8.

Collin Einertson then continued a solid day at the plate with the sacrifice fly to put DePauw ahead for good. The next two batters gave DePauw quality insurance with Tate Stewart driving home another run on a single and Max Cohen doubling to right to bring home two more.

Jack Dillon (2-0) collected the win after pitching the final two innings. He gave up just one hit and did not allow a run. Will Oakley (1-3) took the loss for Kenyon.

Starter Mike Hammel was effective through five innings but struggled entering the sixth. He gave up two runs in the sixth and exited with the bases loaded and nobody out.

Brayden White came in and recorded an out but all of his inherited runners scored. Tom Giella replaced him and used one pitch to record a double play and get out of the inning.

Einertson finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored. He finished a home run away from the cycle.

Tate Stewart was 3-for-3 on the day with three RBI. Thompson, Hammel, Ryan Grippo and Joey Plesac each had two hits.

DePauw improves to 28-8 overall and 11-4 in the conference. Kenyon drops to 16-22 and 5-12.

The two teams will play a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. Sunday to conclude the NCAC Crossover series.
