Box Score 2 Chillicothe, Ohio – Facing elimination from the NCAC Tournament, DePauw broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the ninth and put away Oberlin 13-5.
In their second game against Oberlin in two days, this one again was won in the ninth. However, DePauw did a lot more than just win in walk-off fashion with eight runs in the ninth, all of which came with two outs.
Jack Thompson broke the tie with a two-run, two-strike single to left field with the bases loaded. After reloading the bases, Tate Stewart hit an RBI single and another run scored on an error.
After a pitching change, a hit batter loaded the bases again and CJ Yoannou walked to drive in another run. Zack Wade then cleared the bases with a double down the left field line.
Nick Horvath pitched a 1-2-3 ninth and collected the win. Horvath pitched 2.2 innings and struck out three.
Starter Riley Futterknecht pitched 5.2 innings in the no decision. He gave up two earned runs and struck out seven.
Thompson finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI. Ryan Grippo also went 3-for-5, collecting two doubles in his first two at bats and also collecting an RBI.
Stewart, Wade and Mike Hammel each collected two hits.
Earlier in the day the Tigers fell 18-3 to Wooster. Starter Andrew Quinn took the loss in two innings. Wade recorded a two-run single up the middle in the fourth, and Brayden White grounded out in the ninth for an RBI.
Wooster recorded 21 hits in the game with four home runs, including one grand slam.
DePauw will get another shot at the Fighting Scots in the championship game at 1 p.m. Saturday. However, DePauw will need to defeat them twice to claim the NCAC Championship.
