Hammel Hits Three Home Runs as DePauw Takes 3-of-4 Against Wittenberg

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Springfield, Ohio – Offense was not a problem Sunday for the Tigers as they amounted 24 runs and 30 hits, taking 8-7 and 16-4 wins over Wittenberg to claim 3-of-4 games in their first North Coast Athletic Conference series of the year.

Mike Hammel had himself a day with two home runs in game one and capped his day with a grand slam in the eighth of game two.

He fell a double short of hitting for the cycle in game one and had the game-winning sacrifice fly in the ninth. Combined he finished 6-of-9 with 3 HR, 9 RBI and five runs scored.

Nick Casey recorded the win in game one after pitching 1.2 innings in relief of starter Riley Futterknecht. Futterknecht pitched 6.1 innings of four-run baseball in picking up the no decision.

Nick Horvath pitched a clean ninth for the save.

Game two starter Tyler Holt could not capitalize on DePauw's six first-inning runs and got lifted in the third inning after giving up four earned runs. Grant Rademacher relieved him, finished the game and recorded the win in 6.2 innings of scoreless baseball.

Not to be outdone by Hammel, Collin Einertson hit two home runs in game two after not getting the start in game one. He finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored.

Tate Stewart was another who got the game two start and capitalized with a 3-for-5 performance. Jack Thompson homered in game two – a two-run shot in seventh inning.

Between the two games, Reid Pittard finished 5-of-12 with four runs scored. CJ Yoannou was 3-for-6 with two RBI.

DePauw is not 19-5 overall and 3-1 in the NCAC. Wittenberg falls to 8-13 and 3-5. The Tigers return to action Wednesday when they host a single game against Rose-Hulman.
