Six Home Runs Pace Tigers to Two NCAC Wins Over 20th-Ranked Denison

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Greencastle, Ind. – DePauw totaled six home runs, including five in game two, to defeat 20th-ranked Denison 4-3 in game one and 13-6 in game two for sole possession of first place in the North Coast Athletic West Division.

Jack Thompson had himself a day to remember, hitting a walk-off single in game one and ripping two home runs out of the park in game two.

Thompson received the opportunity in game one after the Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out. Zack Wade walked, Joey Plesac was hit by a pitch and Reid Pittard hit a bunt single.

Ryan Grippo lined out to third before Thompson ripped a one out, 2-2 pitch to right field.

Collin Einertson hit a sac fly to put DePauw up on the board in the first, and Wade homered over the left field scoreboard in the fourth.

Mike Hammel started and pitched a quality seven innings of one-run baseball. He also struck out five.

Nick Horvath got the Tigers out of a jam in the eighth, but gave up a run in the ninth because of a defensive error. He collected the win and is now 2-0 on the season.

In game two, Denison put up four runs in the first but all were unearned. DePauw responded with five runs, all of which came off of Thompson's bat with a 2-run homer in the first and a 3-run home run in the second.

The hits kept coming for DePauw. Later, Grippo, CJ Yoannou and Joey Plesac each homered in the game.

The Tigers have now hit 32 home runs this season, the most a team has hit in one season at DePauw.

Andrew Quinn started and got the win in game two after pitching five innings and allowing just one earned run. Grant Rademacher followed with three innings of one run baseball, and Nick Casey pitched a scoreless ninth.

DePauw improves to 22-5 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC West. Denison, which hadn't lost since March 17 and snapped a 12-game winning streak, drops to 18-5 overall and 4-2 in the division.

The two teams meet again Saturday in a doubleheader starting at noon.
