First, it was Lucas Italiano with a walk-off hit in nine innings to give DePauw a 5-4 win over Wabash in game one on Saturday. Then it was Zack Wade with the eventual game winning three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth to give DePauw a 4-1 win and a Saturday sweep over the Little Giants.

After taking an early 1-0 lead by an RBI single from Max Cohen in the second inning, the Tigers were cruising thanks to the early pitching of Wyatt Spector, who had a no-hitter through 4.2 innings.

Spector was the definition of a ground ball pitcher in his outing with 13 ground balls and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Wabash's first hit came on a bunt with two outs in the fifth.

Spector came back out in the sixth but was replaced by Nick Horvath after giving up two runs and leaving two runners on. The outfield helped immensely on the last two outs of the inning, first with Collin Einertson gunning down a runner at home and then Jack Thompson doing the same for the final out.

Horvath returned in the seventh but gave up two runs on three hits as Wabash took a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.

DePauw first two batters in the bottom of the inning were retired quickly on three pitches.  Pittard kept the Tigers alive with a single to center field before Thompson and Italiano hit back-to-back doubles with Italiano collecting the two RBI to tie the game.

Jack Dillon pitched the final two innings for the Tigers to pick up the win. He left a runner stranded at third in the top of the eighth and left the bases loaded in the top of the ninth after striking out the final two outs.

In the bottom of the ninth it was the Tigers' 2, 3 and 4 batters getting it done again. Pittard walked with one out before Thompson sent him to third via a ground ball to the right side of the infield. Then with two outs, Italiano launched a 0-1 pitch over the center fielder's head to score Pittard.

Jensen Kirch (5-2) took the loss for Wabash, going the distance on 140 pitches.

In game 2, Wade's home run to left center field broke a 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth as Riley Futterknecht capped off his complete game in the seventh. It was Wade's first career home run as he also doubled his RBI total of the season to six.

Futterknecht moves to 5-1 on the year. The one run given up was unearned, and he also struck out 10 batters. Michael Hermann (2-3) took the loss for Wabash pitching all six innings.

DePauw improves to 16-15 overall and 6-8 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Wabash falls to 16-14 overall and 6-4 in the NCAC.

Both teams cap off the series Sunday with another noon doubleheader.
