Tigers smack season-high 22 hits in 19-6 win

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw baseball team defeated Iowa Wesleyan 19-6 on Friday after an impressive offensive display which saw them record a season-high in runs and hits (22).

After getting shutout in game one against Ohio Wesleyan last Sunday, DePauw has plated 30 runs in their past two games – both resulting in wins. They're now 14-15 overall as they prepare for a four-game home stretch this weekend against conference rival Wabash.

Leadoff hitter Jack Thompson was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with three RBI and four runs scored.  Ryan Grippo was also perfect at 4-for-4 scoring five times and collecting a triple, a walk and two RBI.

Tate Stewart had a bases clearing double which helped him to a 2-for-6 night with five RBI. Lucas Italiano and Reid Pittard each added a pair of RBI themselves, while Connor and Collin Einertson, Zack Wade and Cade Jones all had one RBI.

Matt Emerick started but could only pick up the no decision in 4.1 innings of work. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits.

Danny Farrar picked up his second win of the year after relieving Emerick for 1.2 innings and not allowing a single hit. Creed Coram pitched two innings and Jonathan Azar pitched one inning to close the game.

DePauw fell behind Iowa Wesleyan (11-17) 2-1 after one-and-a-half innings before putting up five runs in each the second and third innings to take an 11-4 lead. They scored all of their runs in the second inning with two outs and four of their five in the third with two outs.

The Tigers then scored four runs in the seventh before recording an out to close out their scoring.

DePauw chased Iowa Wesleyan starting pitcher Korbin Taylor out of the game after just 2.2 innings. Iowa Wesleyan used six different pitchers throughout the game.
