Box Score 2 Granville, Ohio - DePauw allowed just five runs and 10 hits in its North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader at Denison, but the Tigers could muster only three runs and the Big Red swept the twinbill by scores of 3-2 and 2-1.
DePauw dropped to 11-11 overall and 2-4 in the NCAC West Division, while Denison improved to 13-5 overall and 2-0 in divisional play.
The Tigers grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third of the opener as Jack Thompson singled to left with one out and scored on Lucas Italiano's double.
Denison took the lead in the bottom of the frame as Joe LaPlaca and Jake Meegan each walked with one out before Jack Blanchard singled home LaPlace and Evan Flax lifted a sacrifice fly that scored Meegan.
DePauw evened the count at 2-2 in the fifth as Ryan Grippo walked and moved to second on Reid Pittard's single. Thompson flied out to right which moved Grippo to third before Italiano singled home Grippo.
The Big Red pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the fifth as Blanchard singled with two outs and moved to third on Flax's single. Blanchard then scored on a wild pitch.
Italiano had two of DePauw's six hits, while Blanchard had two of Denison's five.
Wyatt Spector dropped to 2-3 on the hill for the Tigers, while Denison's Zack Huarte improved to 4-0.
In the nightcap, DePauw again took an early lead with as Collin Einertson reached on an error to lead off the second. He moved to second on Tate Stewart's grounder, to third on a balk and scored on Rick Okazaki's grounder.
Denison tied the game in the second as Phil Papaioannou reached on a two-out error and scored on an error after Noah Hahn singled. The Big Red scored the eventual game-winning run in the sixth when Meegan walked, moved to second on Blanchard's sacrifice bunt and scored on Eric Zmuda's single to right.
The Tigers had first-and-third situations in the seventh and eighth innings, but couldn't push across the tying score.
DePauw totaled nine hits led by Thompson, Collin Einertson and Stewart with two each. Hahn had two of Denison's five hits.
Riley Futterknecht dropped to 3-1, while Denison's Perley Provost moved to 2-1 and Mike Rivera collected his second save.
The two teams square off on Tuesday, April 12, in a 2 p.m. doubleheader.
