Box Score Westfield, Ind. - DePauw scored four runs in the third inning and added six more in the sixth on the way to an 11-3 win over Manchester at Grand Park. The Tigers improved to 2-4, while Manchester dropped to 3-3.
Sean Knepper led off the Manchester second with a homer to left, but DePauw pitcher led off the bottom of the frame with a homer to left to even the score at 1-1.
Zack Wade started the DePauw third with a walk and moved to second on Max Cohen's sacrifice bunt. Reid Pittard was hit by a pitch before Ryan Grippo loaded the bases with a single to second. Lucas Italiano cleared the bases with a triple to left center and scored on Hammel's single to right to make it 5-1.
In the DePauw sixth, Collin Einertson led off with as single and scored on Tate Stewart's double down the left field line. Connor Einertson delivered a sacrifice bunt and an error on the play allowed him to reach and advance to second as Stewart scored. Wade's double to left made it 8-1.
Pittard singled and Grippo reached on a fielder's choice that forced Pittard at second. After Grippo moved up on a wild pitch, Italiano reached on an error that permitted both runners to score. Hammel was hit by a pitch and Collin Einertson walked before Stewart plated Italiano with an infield single.
Manchester added two in the eighth on Chad Schultz's two-run single.
Italiano, Hammel and Stewart each had two of DePauw's 11 hits, while Knepper had three of Manchester's nine and Schultz finished with two.
Hammel improved to 1-0 after allowing one run while striking out six with no walks in seven innings. Manchester starter Stephen Pinarksi dropped to 0-1 after giving up five runs in five innings.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, March 12, when they host Hanover in a Noon doubleheader at Walker Field.
