Box Score 2 Westfield, Ind. – Manchester took both games of a doubleheader against the Tigers on Saturday winning the first game 4-3 and the second 4-2.
In game one, the Tigers didn't find much success against Manchester starter Taylor Kopplin, who took the win in eight innings of work. He gave up just one run in the second inning when Mike Hammel led off the inning with a double and scored when Max Cohen brought him home on a ground ball to short.
Trailing 4-1 heading into the ninth, the Tigers were able to cut the gap at 4-3. Zack Wade and Lucas Italiano each collected an RBI, and the Tigers had the tying run at third but a ground ball to first base ended the game.
Wyatt Spector took the loss in six innings of work. Only two of his four runs given up were earned. Andrew Quinn relieved Spector for two scoreless innings.
DePauw committed four errors in the game and didn't help themselves out in game two either, committing another three errors. Riley Futterknecht took the mound in game two and pitched six innings. Neither of the two runs he gave up were earned.
Jack Dillon pitched 1.1 innings, giving up two runs, one earned to take the loss. Nick Horvath pitched the final two outs.
DePauw took an early 1-0 in the top of the first when Reid Pittard tripled to start the game. Italiano brought him home on a sac fly to left field.
However, in the bottom of the inning, after striking out the first two batters, an error with two outs allowed the inning to continue as Manchester capitalized with a two-run single from Chad Schultz.
The Tigers tied the game in the sixth before Manchester scored two in the bottom of the eighth to take the win.
The Tigers drop to 1-4 overall on the season while the Spartans improve to 3-2. The two teams meet again noon Sunday at Westfield.
