Big Inning Lifts Anderson Past Tigers

Box Score

Westfield, Ind. - DePauw took a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the eighth, but Anderson scored five in the frame and held on for a 7-5 win over the Tigers at Grand Park. Anderson improved to 2-1, while the Tigers dropped to 1-2 in the season-opening weekend for both squads.

Anderson took a 1-0 lead in the third as Nick Butcher reached third on a DePauw outfield error and scored on Evan Bowling's sacrifice fly.

DePauw responded in the top of the fourth as Collin Einertson walked and moved to second on Mike Hammel's single. Connor Einertston followed with a three-run homer to right. Tate Stewart followed with a single and scored to make it 4-1 when Ryan Grippo tripled to right center.

The Ravens added a single run in the bottom of the fourth as Augdan Wilson led off with a triple and scored on Brooks Bireley's one-out single to center.

Anderson loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but Jack Dillon relieved Hammel and struck out the next two hitters before retiring the third on a fly out to center.

Nathan Will led off the Anderson eighth with a double and Derek DeSpain entered as a pinch-runner. Pinch-hitter Glen Collier then evened the score at 4-4 with a two-run homer to left center. Boston Fields followed with a single and advanced to third on an error. Connor Morris gave Anderson the lead with a single and moved to third on Butcher's base hit. Devon Traylor's two-run double to left center scored both runners and made it 7-5.

Jack Thompson led off the DePauw ninth with a pinch-hit triple before Max Cohen pinch hit and drew a walk. Reid Pittard delivered a sacrifice fly to left that scored Thompson. Collin Einterson singled Cohen to third with two outs, but the Tigers left both runners stranded to end the game.

Hammel, Colline Einertson and Stewart each had two of DePauw's nine hits, while Traylor and Wilson each totaled three of the Ravens' 13 hits.

DePauw reliever Sam Comer (0-1) suffered the loss, while John Becker (1-0) collected the win.

The Tigers return to Grand Park on March 5-6 where they will face Manchester in a Saturday doubleheader and a Sunday single game.
