Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – Scoring opportunities were few and far between for the DePauw women's soccer team Tuesday as they lost their season opener to Hanover 2-0.
DePauw managed just four shots, which all came in the second half, while Hanover converted twice on their 20 total shots.
"I think we were disconnected," said Tigers women's soccer coach Megan McCormick. "We didn't settle into the rhythm we were looking for."
Hanover's Elaine Simpson broke the scoreless tie 25:52 into the first half off an assist from Anna Cornacchione. Katie Koopman, off an assist from Shannon Hawkins, made it a 2-0 game before halftime.
Hanover outshot the Tigers 10-0 in the first half. Tigers' goalkeeper Riley Riordan kept busy in the second half as another 10 shots came her way, and she ended the game with seven saves.
Hanover goalkeeper Morgan Cole recorded the shutout with two saves.
McCormick complimented her defenders but felt they should have taken care of the ball a little bit better.
"We were our own toughest opponent," McCormick said. "Our decision making let us down and we gave the ball away in really crucial moments."
DePauw drops to 0-1 on the season and faces Kalamazoo in Bloomington, Ill. on Friday.
