Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - Oberlin first baseman Benjamin Whitener homered twice and starting pitcher Milo Sklar allowed just one run over 8 1/3 innings as the Yeomen defeated DePauw, 11-1, in the third and deciding game of the North Coast Athletic Conference cross-over series.
With the win, Oberlin improved to 15-25 overall and 6-13 in NCAC play, while DePauw ended its season at 15-24 overall and 12-7 in conference play. Oberlin won the series, 2-1, and advanced to the NCAC Tournament.
Oberlin jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Andrew Hutson singled with two outs in the first and Whitener delivered a two-run blast to right.
The Yeomen made it 6-0 with a four-run fourth as Whitener led off with a walk and moved to third on Danny Baldocchi's double to center. Ryan Bliss followed with a single down the left field line that scored Whitener. Baldocchi stayed at second on the play, but Mitch Novak's sacrifice bunt moved the runners into scoring position. Blaise Dolcemaschio's sacrifice fly scored Baldocchi and Jordan Cruz reached on an error that allowed Bliss to score.
In the sixth, Oberlin started another two-out rally as Cruz doubled and scored on Jeff Schweighoffer's single. Kyle Decker followed with a single and Hutson walked to load the bases before Whitener cleared them with a grand slam to right.
DePauw's lone run came in the eighth as Connor Einertson led off with a double and scored on Tate Stewart's two-out single.
DePauw totaled seven hits and left 11 runner stranded with Einertson leading the way with two hits. Schweighoffer, Decker, Whitener, Novak and Cruz each had two of Oberlin's 13 hits.
DePauw starter Riley Futterknecht dropped to 1-3, while Sklar, making just his second collegiate start, improved to 2-4 after striking out eight.
