Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw totaled nine hits and allowed just six, but host Rose-Hulman came away with a 7-1 win over the Tigers. DePauw dropped to 14-22 with the loss, while the Engineers improved to 23-13.
The teams were scoreless through four innings before Rose-Hulman struck first in the bottom of the fifth. John Krasich singled with one out and moved to second when Josh Hoeing walked. Caleb Kissel singled to load the bases. A passed ball allowed Krasich to score before Drew Schnitz tripled home Hoeing and Kissel. Schnitz scored on Patrick Klima's grounder.
The Engineers added two more in the seventh as Schnitz reached on an error and Klima singled. A double steal followed by a throwing error on the play allowed Schnitz to score. Hazen Hamather singled with two outs, scoring Klima.
DePauw got on the board in the eighth when Ryan Grippo, Reid Pittard and Collin Henry singled to load the bases. Lucas Italiano reached on a fielder's choice that forced Grippo at the plate, but Rick Okazaki followed with a single that score Pittard. The Tigers left the bases loaded after a pair of strikeouts.
Rose-Hulman's final run came in the bottom of the eighth as Donnie Waters led off with a homer.
Pittard had two of DePauw's nine hits, while six different Engineers had one hit apiece.
Nick McCreary suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1, while Daniel Sutherland improved to 1-0.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, May 2, when they host Oberlin in a Noon North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader. The twinbill is part of the three-game cross-over series with the series winner advancing to the NCAC Tournament.
