Anderson Uses a Pair of Three-Run Innings to Down Tigers

Box Score

Westfield, Ind.- DePauw wrapped up its four game series with Anderson (Ind.) Wednesday evening, dropping a nine-inning contest by a final score of 6-2 at Grand Park.

The Tigers fell to 14-18 on the year, while the Ravens improved to 21-11.

Anderson jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second, benefiting from two DePauw errors. Andrew Eiler hit a sacrifice fly to right, plating Zack Hufferd for an unearned run. Starting pitcher Nick Horvath made an errant throw on a pickoff attempt, allowing Jake Craft to score. Jonathan Eilbracht's RBI ground out scored Connor Morris for the Raven's third run.

DePauw clawed back into the contest, plating two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Connor Einertson singled to left, but was retired on Cory Meixner's fielder's choice. With one out, Meixner would steal second and advance to third on Collin Henry's single to left. Tate Stewart walked to load the bases. Following a strikeout, Reid Pittard drilled a single to right to draw the Tigers within one.

In the top of the eighth, Cole Heberling hit a one-out triple to left and Hufferd drew a walk. Craft stepped to the plate and despite strong winds blowing in from left field, he hammered a pitch over the left field wall to give Anderson a 6-2 advantage.

The Tigers had runners on in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, but were unable to close the deficit.

Horvath dropped to 4-2 after going six innings, allowing just four hits and three runs (one earned) with two strikeouts. Wyatt Spector tossed a scoreless seventh, while Andrew Quinn surrendered Craft's bomb in the eighth and Eric Steele retired the side in order in the ninth.

Brian Page moved to 3-1, tossing six innings with five hits, two runs and one strikeout. Casey Howell, John Becker and Nicholas Nunez all worked one inning of relief in the victory.

DePauw returns to Walker Field on Saturday, April 25, when they host Case Western Reserve and Washington (Mo.) in a tripleheader starting at 10:00 a.m.
