Box Score Terre Haute, Ind. - DePauw fell behind, 6-0, after four and rallied with four in the fifth, but the Engineers countered with six in the bottom half of the inning and took a 12-7 win over the Tigers at Art Nehf Field. DePauw dropped to 11-16, while Rose-Hulman improved to 15-12.
Rose-Hulman reached the board first as Josh Hoeing walked with two outs and scored on Zach Hull's double. Hull moved to third on a balk before Kevin Jendra walked. Hazen Hamather followed with a run-scoring single to make it 2-0.
Caleb Kissel led off the Rose-Hulman third with a walk and stole second with two outs before Nevin Fansher walked. Hoeing singled home Kissel and Hull doubled in Fansher.
The Engineers expanded the lead to 6-0 in the fourth as Kissel singled with two outs, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Josh Koutnik's double.
DePauw closed the gap to 6-4 in the fifth. Rick Okazaki led off with a single before Max Cohen reached on an error. Reid Pittard followed with a single that plated Okazaki. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance and Ryan Grippo drew a walk to load the bases.
Cohen scored on a wild pitch and Lucas Italiano lifted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Pittard. Connor Einertson's single brought home Grippo with the Tigers' final run of the inning.
In the bottom of the fifth, Kissel drove in three with a double and later scored on a wild pitch. Koutnik and Zach Trusk, who earlier reached on a walk and hit by pitch, respectively, also scored on wild pitches to make it 12-4.
In the DePauw sixth, Tate Stewart and Collin Henry each singled with two outs and Stewart scored when Pittard reached on an error.
The Tigers added two more in the ninth as Mike Hammel drove in Ryan Allee after reaching on an error and Stewart plated Cory Meixner with a grounder to first.
DePauw totaled 10 hits with Stewart leading the way with two. Rose-Hulman finished with 13 hits with Hamather leading with three, while Kissel and Hull had two each.
Tigers' starter Jonathan Azar suffered the loss and dropped to 0-1, while Rose-Hulman starter Joe Callahan improved to 3-3.
DePauw returns to North Coast Athletic Conference West Division play on Saturday with a Noon doubleheader at Wabash.
