Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Springfield, Ohio- DePauw needed extra innings to complete the doubleheader and series sweep over Wittenberg, winning game one 5-2 and taking the nightcap by a final score of 3-2.

The Tigers moved to 11-15 overall and 8-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, good for second place in the West division. Wittenberg dropped to 5-16 on the year and 2-10 in the NCAC.

In game one, DePauw scored in four of the first five innings, seizing control of the contest. Connor Einertson walked with one out in the second and moved to third on Ryan Hurston's single to right. Collin Henry delivered an RBI single through the right side, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

Three straight hits helped DePauw extend its lead in the top of the third inning. Ryan Grippo singled up the middle and advanced to second on Lucas Italiano's single to right. Ryan Allee singled through the right side, plating Grippo. Einertson hit a sacrifice fly to left to give DePauw a 3-0 edge.

DePauw added one run in the fourth and fifth innings, extending its lead to five. Tate Stewart doubled to left and moved to third on Reid Pittard's infield single. Grippo hit a ground ball to the pitcher that was able to plate Stewart from third. In the fifth, Hurston hit a two-out double to left and scored when Henry reached on a fielding error in left.

Wittenberg's lone runs came in the fifth inning as Corey Farnbauch singled to third and moved to second on Zac Wilson's single through the right side. Following a strikeout and a wild pitch, Dalton Boucher hit an RBI ground out to second and Timmy Bates followed with a run scoring single to left.

Starting pitcher Riley Futterknecht worked a 1-2-3 sixth and Nick Horvath picked up the save, sitting Wittenberg down in order in the seventh inning.

Futterknecht went six innings, striking out seven with six hits and two walks. Horvath picked up his first save of the season, working a perfect seventh.

Game two proved to be an offensive struggle for DePauw, as the Tigers managed just four hits in the 10-inning contest. Wittenberg struck first on Will Cousins' infield single that plated Aaron Patrick.

Italiano provided DePauw with its first hit in the fourth inning, tying the contest with a homer to right.

In the bottom of the sixth, Wittenberg used small ball to retake the lead. Patrick was hit by a pitch and lifted for a pinch runner. Dimitrious Dimitroff stole second and moved to third on as Allee's throw went to center. Following a walk, Farnbauch put down a suicide squeeze bunt, plating Dimitroff from third.

DePauw was able to tie the contest in the top of the eighth on a two-out triple from Einertson. Italiano walked to lead off and was moved to second on Allee's sacrifice bunt. After Cory Meixner lined out to third, Einertson hit a high fly ball to right center that landed safely for a triple, tying the game at 2-2.

Wittenberg had a prime opportunity to take the lead in the bottom half of the eighth as Farnbauch opened the inning with a double to center. Farnbauch moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, but was caught stealing home on a failed suicide squeeze attempt.

In the top of the tenth, Grippo reached on an error, but was doubled up on Italiano's line out to first. With two outs Allee singled down the right field line and was lifted for a pinch-runner.

Pinch-runner Ryan Raupach was stealing second when Meixner hit a shot to left field. Raupach originally was held at third, but following an errant throw in left, Raupach was able to scamper home, giving the Tigers a 3-2 lead.

It was Horvath who shut down the host Tigers in the bottom of the tenth, sealing DePauw's 3-2 victory.

Neither starter factored in the decision as DePauw's Andrew Quinn went five innings with two strikeouts, one walk and six hits, while Wittenberg's Stu Haley tossed six innings with one hit, four walks and four strikeouts.

A slew of Tigers pitched in relief, paced by Horvath who tossed 1.2 innings to pick up the victory. Tyler Holt recorded two outs in the sixth, Eric Steele finished the sixth and seventh innings, Sam Comer recorded one out in the eighth and Jack Peck recorded three outs, spanning the eighth and ninth innings.

DePauw travels to Rose-Hulman tomorrow for a nine-inning contest starting at 7:00 p.m.
