Box Score 2 Westfield, Ind.- The DePauw baseball team opened its 2015 season Sunday afternoon, dropping both games in a double header to Manchester at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind.
In game one, the Spartans (2-0) scored first as Sean Knepper drew a lead-off walk and moved to second on Kyle Norris' single. Knepper stole third and scored on a one-out single by Jordan Nieman.
The Tigers answered in the bottom half of the inning, tallying three-straight singles from Collin Henry, Ryan Grippo and Ryan Allee. Henry scored on Allee's single and Cory Meixner was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Lucas Italiano earned a free pass, forcing in Grippo from third. DePauw had a chance to add more, but three consecutive strikeouts ended the threat.
Manchester would take advantage of a six-run third inning, chasing Tiger starter Jack Peck after facing five batters in the inning. Peck surrendered seven earned runs on four hits, walking four and hitting three batters. The Spartans would tack on runs in the fourth, sixth and ninth innings, finishing with 11 for the game.
DePauw added a run in the bottom of the third on Mike Hammel's solo homerun. In the eighth inning, Tate Stewart took a lead-off walk and moved to second on Henry's single. Grippo doubled down the right field line, scoring Stewart. Again, the Tigers squandered an offensive opportunity, recording back-to-back strikeouts and a flyout to end the inning.

In the nightcap, the Tigers grabbed an early lead as Henry took a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Italiano's two-out double scored Henry to give DePauw a 1-0 lead.
Both teams were held scoreless over the next two frames until Manchester hung a five spot in the fourth inning. Nieman reached on a fielder's choice and moved to third on Tailur Szarenski's one-out single. Logan Hug followed with an RBI single to tie the score. With two outs Elliott Ford singled, plating Szarenski. Justin Miller added an RBI single to left that was misplayed by Meixner, allowing the runners to advance one base. Knepper capped the inning with a single through the left side, making the score 5-1.
Manchester added three unearned runs in the fifth as a two-out groundball skipped by first basemen Ryan Hurston, allowing the Spartan's inning to continue. Ford and Miller would each tally RBIs in the frame.
Back-to-back errors in the bottom of the sixth helped the Tigers tally two runs without even collecting a hit. Allee and Italiano walked to start the inning, but Hurston and Meixner followed with a pair of flyouts. Hammel and Collin Einertson both reached on an error allowing Allee and Italiano to score.
The Spartans scored twice in the eighth inning, padding their 10-3 advantage. Norris singled and stole second, while Trevor Kimm added an infield single. Andrew Quinn's deliver bounced to the backstop, allowing Norris to score from third. Nieman singled through the left side to cap Manchester's scoring.
