#26 Emory's Four-Run Sixth Downs Tigers

Box Score

Atlanta, Ga.- Four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning gave 26th-ranked Emory a 4-1 victory over the DePauw baseball team, Tuesday afternoon at Chappell Park.

The loss drops the Tigers overall record to 3-9, while the Eagles improved to 13-8.

Strong starting pitching dictated the early flow of the contest as DePauw starter Andrew Quinn did not allow a hit until the fourth and Emory's starter Luke Emmett held the Tigers hitless until the fifth inning.

In the sixth, Chris Young reached on an error by Quinn and moved to second on Wes Peacock's single to left. Dylan Eisner's bunt single loaded the bases for the Eagles. Brett Lake hit a deep fly ball to left, scoring Young from third. Ben Vizvary doubled to center, plating two and Jordan Selbach delivered a two-out single, giving Emory a 4-0 advantage.

DePauw broke through in the eighth as Cory Meixner leadoff with a double down the left field line. Meixner advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on Ryan Hurston's RBI ground out. The Tigers had runners in scoring position, but a ground out and a strikeout ended the inning.

The Tigers looked to notch a late-inning rally as Ryan Grippo singled through the left side to start the ninth. Lucas Italiano followed with a single to left, moving Grippo to second. Meixner drew a one-out walk and was replaced by Ryan Raupach at first. With the bases loaded Hurston grounded to the second baseman who tagged Raupach and threw to first, sealing the victory for Emory.

Emmett picked up his first win of the season, going 7.2 innings with four strikeouts and just four hits. Kyle Monk picked up his sixth save of the season tossing 1.1 innings in relief.

Quinn fell to 0-2 on the year after throwing seven innings, allowing just two earned runs and five hits with three strikeouts. Nick McCreary retired the side in order in the eighth inning.

DePauw wraps up its spring break trip tomorrow when they play Oglethorpe starting at 7:00 p.m.
