13 Strikeouts Send Tigers to 4-2 Defeat

Atlanta, Ga.- Fresh off an upset victory over NCAA Division I Georgia State, the DePauw baseball team was back in action against Hendrix College. The Tigers fell to the Warriors by a 4-2 margin, Monday night at the Georgia State Baseball Complex.

With the loss, DePauw dropped to 3-8 overall, while Hendrix moved to 10-9 on the year.

Hendrix struck first, tallying three runs in the bottom of the second inning. Spencer Summers singled to center and moved to second on Chance Schilhab's walk. Following a fielder's choice, Seth Mobley delivered a single to third, scoring Summers from third. Ryan Ritz earned a walk and Drew Judson dropped a two-out single to right, plating two for the Warriors.

The Tigers answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. Johnny Gbur, Lucas Italiano and Mike Hammel delivered consecutive singles, all with two outs to draw DePauw within one. Hammel's single to center plated Italiano and Gbur in the inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, James Martin reached after a pitch hit his elbow and he moved to second on Mobley's sacrifice bunt. Ritz singled to center, plating Martin and giving Hendrix a 4-2 lead.

DePauw failed to gain any ground in the final five innings as the collected just one hit over the span. The Tigers struggled offensively, striking out 13 times and failing to draw a walk.

Wyatt Spector took the loss, going six innings with six hits, four earned runs and three strikeouts. Eric Steele tossed two scoreless innings in relief, tallying four strikeouts.

Daniel Imbro picked up the win, throwing seven innings with 11 strikeouts and two earned runs. Cannon Schrank and Harley Faye each pitched one inning in relief, while Faye picked up the save.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Emory for a 3:00 p.m. contest.
