DePauw Drops Twinbill with Anderson

Westfield, Ind. - Anderson pounded out 16 hits in the opening game of a doubleheader with DePauw at Grand Park for a 9-6 victory and then limited the Tigers to just four hits in the nightcap and take 7-0 win and the sweep.

DePauw dropped to 0-4, while the Ravens improved to 4-1.

In the opener, the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Lucas Italiano's ground-rule double to right plated Ryan Grippo and Collin Henry.

Anderson struck for four in the bottom half of the frame as Jake Craft singled home a pair before Zack Hufford and Connor Morris each added RBI singles.

Connor Einertson's two-run homer to right in the second evened the score, but Anderson matched that in the bottom of the second as Jeremy Shelmadine tripled home Austin Young and then scored on Craft's single to left.

The Ravens added three more in the fifth when Shelmadine drove in two with a single and then scored on Craft's double down the left field line.

DePauw's final two runs came in the sixth when Jack Thompson tripled down the right field line, scoring Collin Einertson and then scored when Connor Einertson lifted a sacrifice fly to left.

Italiano led DePauw with three hits, while Ryan Allee added a pair. Craft went four-for-four and drove in four, while Connor Morris added three hits. Young, Shelmadine, Cole Heberling and Hufford each had two hits as Anderson totaled 16.

Danny Farrar suffered the loss, while Mark Garrett picked up the win and Lane Hanzel earned the save.

In game two Anderson scored two in the first when Shelmadine doubled home Young and then scored on Craft's sacrifice fly.

Shelmadine tripled home Young in the third and then scored when Heberling reached on an error. Shelmadine made it 5-0 with a sacrifice fly in the seventh before Heberling hammered a two-run homer to left.

Four different Tigers had one hit apiece, while Anderson totaled eight hits led by Heberling with three and Shelmadine and Morris with two each.

Andrew Quinn started and picked up the loss, while Ben Yoder collected the win.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, March 14, in a Noon doubleheader at Hanover.
