Tigers and Little Giants Split Opening NCAC Twinbill

Greencastle, Ind. - Three DePauw pitchers limited visiting Wabash to just one run in the opener of the North Coast Athletic Conference doubleheader between the two schools as the Tigers claimed a 2-1 victory, but Wabash struck early in the nightcap for a 6-2 victory and a split.

In the opener, the teams battled through three scoreless frames before DePauw's Ryan Allee led off the fourth by reaching on an error and moved to second on Connor Einertson's sacrifice bunt. Collin Henry followed with an infield single before Ryan Grippo delivered a run-scoring base hit to left center. J.B. McCallum made it 2-0 with a single to left that plated Henry.

Wabash countered with one in the fifth as Tyler Owensby hit a liner off DePauw pitcher Jack Peck's hand and Clint Scarborough followed with a double to center, but was thrown 
out after rounding second. With Owensby on third, Tyler Hampton followed with a sacrifice fly to center.

Wabash loaded the bases with one out in the sixth, but Andrew Rodgers hit into an inning-ending double play off of DePauw reliever Pete Stuart

Henry and Grippo each had two of DePauw's eight hits, while Owensby collected two of the Little Giants' six hits. 

Peck improved to 2-1 with the win after allowing just four hits wit three strikeouts and no walks in five innings, while J.T. Miller dropped to 3-1. J.T. Timmer picked up his third save with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Wabash jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the nigthcap as David Oliger doubled with one out and scored when Rodgers followed with a single. Owensby moved Rodgers to third with a double down the left field line. Scarborough's infield single brought home Rodgers and Hampton later drove in Owensby with a single to left.

Oliger led off the Wabash fifth with a double and moved to third when Rodgers flied out to center. Scarborough's single to left brought home Oliger and made it 4-0. K.J. Zelenika 
added a solo homer to left in the sixth. 

The Little Giants added one more in the seventh as Oliger led off with a single and Rodgers walked. Owensby hit into a double play that forced Oliger at third. Scarborough then hit 
a grounder that took a hop into left center for a double and brought home Rodgers.

DePauw reached the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh as Brendon Pashia led off with a double and pinch-hitter Cory Meixner knocked him in with a double. Henry's ground out to 
second moved Meixner to third and Grippo lifted a sacrifice fly to right to close the gap to 6-2.  
Wabash totaled 13 hits in the contest paced by Oliger's four and Scarborough's three. Scarborough also drove in three. Meixner had two of DePauw's seven hits.

DePauw starter Michael Chiaro dropped to 0-3 after going five innings, while the Little Giants' Ross Hendrickson improved to 3-2 with the complete game win. 

The teams return to Walker Field for a Noon doubleheader on Sunday.
