Box Score Atlanta, Ga.- The Tigers were back in action Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game set at Emory University. After three scoreless innings it was the Eagles who took control, scoring runs in each of the final five innings, to complete the series sweep with a 7-1 win.
With the victory, Emory improved to 18-7 overall, while DePauw dropped to 2-7.
Wyatt Spector got the start on the mound for the Tigers and worked through a first-inning jam, stranding two Eagles in scoring position. Spector eased through the second and third innings before being touched up for one run in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Emory's Jordan Selbach broke the scoreless tie with an RBI single through the left side in the bottom of the fourth inning. Two DePauw errors in the fifth led to three runs for the Eagles behind Wes Peacock's two-run single.
Eric Steele relieved Spector who struck out four over 4.1 innings of work. Steele collected the final two outs in the fifth allowing an unearned run to score on Jared Welch's sacrifice fly.
The Eagles scored insurance runs in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings, putting the pressure on the Tigers' offense. However, DePauw's bats were stifled by Emory's starting pitcher Hans Hansen, who tossed seven scoreless innings with just five hits, while striking out five and walking two.
DePauw finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the eighth on Ryan Allee's RBI single that scored Zach Starr from second. Allee led the Tigers with three hits, while Brendon Pashia tallied two hits in the loss.
Spector took the loss for DePauw dropping to 1-2 on the year, while Hansen picked up the win improving to 5-1.
Emory outhit the Tigers 14-8 on the day, led by Jared Kahn who went 4-for-5 at the plate.
The Tigers are back in action Tuesday, March 25, when they travel to Piedmont for a nine-inning contest starting at 7 p.m.
