DePauw Drops Pair at Emory

Atlanta, Ga.- Host Emory tallied 33 hits in the doubleheader and the Eagles swept DePauw by 10-4 and 12-2 scores. The Tigers dropped to 2-6, while Emory improved to 17-7.

The Tigers struck first in the opener on an RBI single by Brendon Pashia scoring Robbie Stein. However, the Eagles answered in the bottom of the inning as Brett Lake mashed a three-run homer off DePauw starter Michael Chiaro to put Emory up 3-1.

DePauw tied the score after tallying single runs in the third and fifth innings as Zach Starr singled down the left field line scoring Michael Hartnagel in the third then drove in J.B. McCallum with a single in the fifth.

Emory took control with a four-run fifth and added one more in the sixth off Tiger reliever, Alex Sroka, to make it 8-3. The Eagles scored twice in the eighth on Lake's RBI single and Daniel Iturrey's RBI groundout.

The Tigers added one in the ninth on Stein's sacrifice fly which scored Paul Mpistolarides..

Chiaro took the loss for DePauw and dropped to 0-2 after going five innings. Connor Dillman (4-1) picked up the win for Emory after tossing seven innings and giving up nine hits with six strikeouts.

In the nightcap, the Eagles scored four runs in the opening frame, chasing DePauw starter Pete Stuart after recording just two outs in the inning. Emory added two runs in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth, stretching its lead to 11-0.

DePauw reached the scoreboard in the fifth on Starr's single that plated McCallum. The Tigers added one more in the eighth as Jack Thompson grounded into a double play allowing Stein to score from third.

Stuart suffered the loss for the Tigers and dropped to 0-3, while Paul Merolla (2-1) earned the win for Emory after working six innings giving up one run.

Stein led the Tigers with five hits on the day, while Starr added four hits and three RBIs.

Lake led the Eagles going 7-for-10 on the day with six RBIs and three runs scored.

The teams wrap up their three-game set with a 2 p.m. start tomorrow.
